Finding the Solutions

I am getting very excited. Our sponsorship marketing industry needed a training and professional development tool in book form for a long time. For more than a decade, people have been clamouring for a source of sponsorship marketing training beyond conferences and workshops. Well, it’s almost here. Reality Check – Straight Talk about Sponsorship Marketing is nearly a reality!

Over two years ago, I began writing a book on sponsorship in Canada. It has been a long road to find a great co-writer, put the right information and content in the book, draft it, lay it out, and have it edited and published. I have been blessed with the support of many others, including my family, The Hilborn Group and its subsidiary Civil Sector Press which will publish, and Janet Gadeski my co-writer who has brought it all to life. This fall, it will be available for all to enjoy.

Appropriately named Reality Check, this will be Canada’s first book on sponsorship. It will provide input and case studies and stories from many industry professionals as well as content on everything from how to build an inventory and place real market value on it to getting meetings, doing discovery sessions, building proposals, closing the business and of course fulfilment, activation and summits. Many post secondary educational institutions will be reviewing Reality Check in the coming months for use as course curriculum content and required reading in coming semesters and terms. It will be available for purchase online at Civil Sector Press Book Room. As soon as it is posted we will let you know.

The best part of writing this book will be the experience it will provide for so many. Not everyone can attend the 2-3 sponsorship marketing conferences across the country each year. Not everyone can attend SMCC Breakfast Forums or traveling workshops. But for under $30, they can have this expertise in a book, either online or in hardcopy. I feel excited that so many will be able to learn from all the contributors and supporters of this book-and the industry. They will have best practices, systems, formats and tips at their fingertips. It is rewarding to know this will finally be available to Canadians and our industry. It has been too long in coming!
