The growth of the Partnership Group
continues and as a result we have added more staff
and support to serve our clients. With new clients being
served each month as well as renewal agreements for
mentoring services, the company's growth is
unprecedented. This though is probably a true reflection
of the industry as a whole. Read on to learn more.
As was discussed by many at the Western
Sponsorship Congress earlier this month, the
growth of the sponsorship industry is rapid.
More and more companies involved in buying sponsorships
are realizing this is not something they can do "off the
corner of their desk with left over marketing budget".
It is a crucial mix to their community investment, HR,
marketing and sales plans. As a result they are hiring
companies like the Partnership Group to assist them in
the valuation, selection and measurement of
ROI of their present and future sponsorships.
This has created quite a buzz in the industry as more
and more such companies are "professionalizing" their
approach to sponsorship and seeing incremental returns
on their investments as a result.
On the other side of the arena,
properties are doing the same. More an more
organizations (non profits, municipalities, charities,
professional and amateur sport organizations, member
associations, community groups and others) are seeing
the need for a professional approach to sponsorship.
They have realized that they can no longer just "plunk
down an investment number on the bottom of a proposal"
and expect to sell and renew such an opportunity. Over
49% of the companies surveyed last year have
switched from philanthropic giving to
sponsorship. Properties are realizing this
opportunity for revenue growth and the need for an audit
of their inventory as well as development of industry
recognized valuation of the assets they have. We are
seeing more and more such organizations understand
the need for these services offered by the Partnership
Group and others. As a result the industry continues to
grow exponentially as does the Partnership Group.
As noted in the summer issue of
The Sponsorship
Update, we completely redesigned our
web site to be more informative and user friendly. The
site now includes bios on all our team members, industry
definitions, all of our corporate and property services
in detail including estimated pricing. As well we have
updated our client lists with a click through to their
sites, added a testimonial section and also added a
section of all our past newsletters, The
Sponsorship Update. Be sure to click
through to the new site by clicking on the logo above or
by visiting www.partnershipgroup.ca. We welcome your feedback on the
site and its changes.
In addition to the announcement of the
addition of new associates to our team (Jim
Petersen, Seamus O'Keefe and
Stephanie Raynor-Hohol ) in the summer
issue of The Sponsorship
Update, we are pleased to announce
three additional members to our team. Brenda
Barootes and her company Paregoros
Inc. as noted in last issue of The
Sponsorship Update, have come on board to
oversee management and operation of the Western
Sponsorship Congress. This includes the very successful
event earlier this month as well as the 2008 Western
Sponsorship Congress in October 2008 and also the 2008
Western Sponsorship Congress Workshops in April 2008.
Congratulations to Brenda and her team on making the
2007 Western Sponsorship Congress such a huge success.
Mark
McLoughlin, another industry seasoned veteran
has also joined out team. Mark is based in Kelowna,
British Columbia and in addition to his role on leading
the inventory development, valuation and package
development work we are doing for Grant MacEwan College
in Edmonton, mark will work on growing our business in
Kelowna and also assist as a Senior Associate on other
client accounts. Welcome aboard
Mark!
As many of you are aware, we
launched our proprietary sponsorship software
Sponsorship Management System
(SMS) last year. This is an industry
unique product and one we believe fills a huge void in
the marketplace. This easily managed software provides
full property management of benefits, assets, inventory,
packages, valuations, fulfillment and fulfillment
management services. It is an amazing
product!
With the increased interest in the
product and the need for it in the marketplace,
Tom Paton of Your Choice
Consulting has also joined our team. Tom is the
mastermind program software developer behind this
product. Tom's roll with us is to continue to deliver
top notch service for clients using the product as well
as assist in the development and launch of Version 2.
Tom works hand in hand with our present users as well as
will work with new clients to ensure their ease in
use of the program.
Enjoy this quarter's newsletter and as
always we look forward to your feedback and comments.

October Congress Sells
Out!
The third annual Western Sponsorship
Congress was again a sell out. With over 25 different
presenters, two key note sessions, 21 different
workshops, 6 luncheon round table discussions and a fun
filled panel discussion, the event was incredible.
Over 160 delegates were registered to attend.
This is an increase of over 50% from 2006. The
event continues to grow annually and we are already in
planning and organization for the October 2008 Western
Sponsorship Congress. If you did not attend this year,
be sure to register early for 2008 before it sells
out!!
Congratulations to Brenda and her team at
Paregoros Inc who came on board in August to manage and
operate the Western Sponsorship Congress. What a great
job they did. Brenda and her team are back for the 2008
Congress as well as the management and operation of the
2008 April Western Sponsorship Congress workshops. (See
next article below.)
Also at this time we would like to thank
all the presenters. They were fantastic with great
reviews and evaluations. Each of these speakers donates
their own time to be at the Congress. They are not paid,
but instead wish to assist in the growth of the industry
and its members. Thank you to all who
participated as presenters.
It was truly the 160+ delegates who made
the Congress the success it was. The networking, the
deals, the discussion of best practices and the
comradery was unlike I have ever seen before at such an
event. Thank you to all the delegates who
registered and attended. We hope your
expectations were exceeded!
A "sponsorship" Congress. What would it be
without sponsors? The Partnership Group -
Sponsorship Specialists were pleased to be the
presenting sponsor and have signed on to do so again
next year. In addition the list of sponsors this past
year was incredible. MARKETING lead the
way with their presentation of both the luncheons,
Ross W Marsh & Associates as well
as the Journal Of Sponsorship ensured
we all had a great time at the evening receptions. Event
sponsors Credit Union Centre, Carriage House
Inn, Inland AV, Imagination Ink, WestJet and
SportDecision all ensured the success
and the low cost to delegates. Be sure to keep in mind
these sponsors when you need such services, they are
truly what keep your costs so low (early bird rate was
under $550 for 2 full days).
We would also like at this time to
acknowledge and highlight the educational partnership
with Bow Valley College (BVC). Eighteen
business students from BVC who had
a business background in their native countries
participated at the Western Sponsorship Congress.
Through their roles of introducing speakers, hosting,
registration and more, they were able to learn more
about Canadian business customs and expand their
business opportunities. In addition each of the students
had the opportunity to participate as a full delegate at
the Congress. What a great partnership and thank you to
Bow Valley College for their forward
thinking to get involved.

SPONSORSHIP TIPS
A legal contract is essential to the success of any
sponsorship agreement. Be sure to have a detailed agreement
that both you the seller of a sponsorship and the buyer or
sponsor sign. It should outline all benefits (in detail) that
you will deliver to the sponsor including timelines and make
goods. It must also outline in detail the elements that the
sponsor will provide (cash - payment schedule or value in kind
with details of product and timelines for delivery). Too often
we see "handshake deals" or verbal agreements that most often
result in issues down the road. One of the deal makers leaves
the organization and no one is sure what was agreed to.
Protect your sponsors and protect yourself. Have a detailed
signed agreement in place!
For assistance in building proposal contracts
or for more information contact the Partnership Group at
info@partnershipgroup.ca.
Activation is an essential factor in your sponsorship
investment. Be sure not to invest your entire budget in
sponsorship rights. Allow budget to activate, leverage and
make your sponsorship work.
If you have a $100,000 budget, perhaps you look at
spending $35,000 paid directly to a property for rights fee.
Then allocate $65,000 to activate it. The industry average is
$3 of activation for every $1 spent on rights fees. This
ensures your success, delivers tangible and measurable ROI and
benefits both you and the property!
For more information on sponsor activation
contact the Partnership Group at
info@partnershipgroup.ca.
