Jim is a “marketer” with over 17 years of successful experience in major regional, national, and international events, projects, and corporate environments.
After successful years in banking, sales and retail management, including Sun Life, McDonald's and the Bank of Montreal, Jim began working in human resources in 1982 in executive search and eventually as a human resources generalist in a medium size Calgary oil and gas company.
This lead Jim to a similar position working for the XV Olympic Winter Games where he was responsible for recruiting many of the initial full time employees into the 1988 Games organizing committee. As the Manager, Supplier Program-marketing, he developed the department from inception which was designed to secure tier 2 sponsorships for the 1988 Winter Games. As the result of this activity, OCO'88 derived a quantity ($21 million) and quality of suppliers that were very instrumental in the success of the Games.
In 1988, Jim created Quantum Marketing with the mandate to support corporations and properties work their way through event marketing and sponsorship. In this capacity, Jim consulted to corporate clients in Canada and in the US as well as Olympic organizing committees in Lillehammer Norway, and Albertville France.
Other national events, properties and corporations Jim has supported in a variety of roles include Commonwealth Games, Grey Cups, Canada 125, and TransCanada Trail. These projects included integrated marketing programs with event marketing, sponsorship sales, and licensing elements all of which resulted in strong revenue generation activity.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen's University and has taken other courses and seminars in human resources, management and organizational development as well as prerequisite courses toward an MBA at the University of Calgary.
Jim is an active community volunteer having been on the Board of Directors for the Calgary Boys and Girls club and a member of the cabinet for the capital and endowment campaign which successfully raised over $8.5 million dollars.
Jim is also a cancer survivor coach.
