Thoughts on Christmas and the Holidays

It is that time of year again—the holiday season. I call it Christmas because I am a Christian. I have lots of friends and clients who will celebrate Hanukkah or Ramadan as well, but because I am Christian, I will refer to Christmas. Many people refer to it as “the holiday season” so as not to offend anyone.

To me, it is not the label that is put on the season. It is the sentiment and feeling that go with it. Whether through your faith you celebrate Ramadan, Hanukkah, or Christmas (or you do not celebrate any religious faith at all), the meaning of Christmas and the holidays is one beyond just your faith. It is about people and love.

This time of year is about being thankful for all we have been blessed with. (Yes, I know that happens in October as well for Canadians and in November for Americans!) It is a time of joy and celebration. It is a time to be thankful for and celebrate our families, parents (present or passed), children, partners, and siblings. For those with extended families, it means more celebration.

For me, this time of year is also one of thanks to all our team who have served our clients so well over the past year. And of course, it is a time for me to be grateful for our clients who have allowed us into their board rooms, offices, facilities, hearts and minds, and have allowed us to serve them this past year. We are grateful for this district privilege.

I hope that, over this Christmas season, you have an amazing holiday. I hope you get to spend time with your families, friends, and all those who are important in your life. I will try to smile a little more each day, to say one additional nice thing to everyone I encounter, to do one additional good deed each day, and hope that this pattern continues in the new year.

Thank you for being in my life as a friend, family member, client, or virtual friend through the TMC. Thank you for providing meaning and opportunity to serve. I wish you all the best over this Christmas season and may 2017 bring you health, happiness, and prosperity!
