Arlene Schilke and Brent Barootes on Sponsorship and Western Sponsorship Congress®

Brent Barootes is just a really strong individual, an incredible person to meet. You can tell just by meeting him how smart he is.

And one of the things that I love about Brent is that when he's talking to you, he looks at you, he nods his head, he's an active listener, and he asks such great follow-up questions. So you can tell that he's actually listening and is engaged in the conversation.

He is so well connected across the country. He is really, he's the guy in sponsorship in Canada. He's really the only person who's wrote a book on it. And he has just worked really hard to immerse himself in the industry. He knows so many people. He's so good at connecting with people, at meeting with them face to face for coffee, for lunch, for appointments, attending events.

He's the sponsorship guy in Canada. And because he is so well connected, it's just been great to be able to tap into his connections and network. And he's just brought people to the event that we maybe were not aware of before or hadn't heard of. And Brent is able to do an introduction, and we've been able to just really bring in some key people and just having access to them. That's really what he's brought to the program is his connections to people in the industry.

We were looking at the time for somebody to run our Western Sponsorship Congress. We put out an RFP and TimeWise Event Management out of Edmonton submitted on it. We hired them and they were amazing. They did a great job for us. And then they've been doing that for probably four or five years. And then we looked at closing down the event. It was doing well and all that sort of stuff, sort of leave on the high note. And the end result was they asked if they could buy it. And we said, no, we'll keep the IP and we'll sell you a license. And for the last decade, they've been operating this as their own business, Western Sponsorship Congress, and they have done a phenomenal job with it and we're so proud to have them as a licensee and they take care of our brand, they take care of our experience and they take care of all the people that come through it.

Thanks Arlene for you, thank you for Brent and Lexi and the whole team and all the people over the last well 15 years that you've been running this event for making it such a success for us.

Pushing the Envelope

Recently I had conversations with a few clients who feel they are being “used” and that is not what a partnership is all about. Either their prospective partners or existing partners keep asking them for “more”. Ugh… I can relate. As an agency we get it all the time....

A Secret
