Dealing with the SH@T

Dealing with the SH@T

Wow… can you believe all the distractions we have? There is so much to worry about. Between what is going on in Palestine and the Ukraine and elsewhere. The economic bullying and tariff war we are waging in our own backyard. The homelessness, the additions crisis, rising costs and loss of jobs. The political division that exists in our own nation and h=is heightened with the election. It is just crazy. I am not sure how each of us get through each day… other than turning off the media. (Good luck with that.)

But I recently read a story that made me smile and bring it all into perspective. The story is about an overly optimistic boy who wakes up on his birthday to find a pile of manure outside his bedroom window. He runs downstairs with a smile on his face, grabs a shovel and starts whistling and digging in the pile of manure. A friend comes along and asks “What are you doing?” and the boy looks up and replies “I am sure there is a pony in here somewhere.”

Call it rose colored glasses or a failure to see reality. But I look at it differently. With all the SH@T happening around us, we need sometimes to put on those rose-colored glasses and view the world from another lens. Right now, on top of all that is going on around me with the elements I mentioned above, we are blessed with having the busiest first quarter of the year that we have ever had in over 23 years. The activity and inbound requests for services and information is overwhelming. At the same time, we are trying to plan a trip to celebrate several milestones in my wife and my lives. It is overwhelming as well.

Then there is the travel, client deliverables, staff development and support. And then finally keeping up a healthy lifestyle and exercise regime. So, every once in a while, I need to put on those rose colored glasses and pick up a shovel and look for that pony in the pile of manure. And some of it (like launching a video workshop training series, launching a sponsorship valuation app, publishing an updated edition of Reality Check – Straight Talk about Sponsorship Marketing is achievable, so the digging in the manure is revitalizing. Dreaming and planning is critical to your success and my success. Without dreams and ambitions, we will never be successful. And sometimes that dream of the pony under all that manure comes to life.

So today, take a few minutes, find a virtual shovel and start digging out of all the SH@T that is going on around you.
