Free Public Skating for Ottawa Residents Thanks to RBC

Ottawa residents can enjoy free public skating on weekends at local arenas, thanks to a commitment from RBC. The City and RBC recently announced a new sponsorship agreement that will help the community stay active and improve their skating skills.

“RBC is a true community leader and their generous contribution will help promote skating and healthy active living in Ottawa,” said Mayor Jim Watson.

The RBC commitment, secured by Bernie Colterman and his team at CEPSM is worth $200,000 over three years and will support free public skating in City arenas on Saturdays and Sundays at all scheduled free skates from January to April and September to December. In addition, children will benefit from the RBC Try it Out! Skating Animation Program, which includes 25 hours per week of basic instructional and play animation (organized recreational skating) that will be available at a number of public skating locations and times.

“It’s a privilege to partner with the City and give back to this great community that has given so much to us,” said Jeff Boyd, RBC Regional President, Ontario North and East. “We believe investing in this great initiative not only demonstrates RBC’s continuing commitment to kids and families to be healthier, happier and more active, but brings to life our five-year $100 million Believe in Kids Pledge intended to improve the well-being of one million kids – mind, body and spirit.”
