Tolerance

Tolerance

Have you ever had that person in your office or at school or on a sports team that just drives you nuts? Perhaps they are too opinionated or perhaps they are a nonstop talker, or they have no filter and thus are rude. Perhaps they just irk you and you are not sure why but you just do not want to be around them. (Oh sorry… I forgot all my readers are saints and none of those things would ever occur to you…)

But there is no way around it. They are in your department, or they are in your class or on your team. You just need to learn to tolerate them. Your friends, your boss… everyone is telling you the same thing. Life is full of those people… you just need to learn how to tolerate them.

One time in a group I am in I spoke about such a person “who drove me crazy” to a couple of friends of mine in the group. And I said, “come on… how do you really define ‘tolerate’?” One of them looked at me and said, “Tolerance is the art of seeing yourself as others see you – and not getting mad about it”. I have never forgotten that and try my best to live by it when I run across “that person” that I cannot tolerate. How about you?

  1. Your question: Have you ever had that person in your office or at school or on a sports team that just drives you nuts? Perhaps they just irk you and you are not sure why but you just do not want to be around them? Me: Yup, Trump!
