Calgary Flames Announce $1 Million Donation to the Canadian Red Cross

The Calgary Flames announced today a donation of $1 million to the Canadian Red Cross for Alberta flood relief efforts from the Flames Foundation for Life.  Due to the devastating flood that the City of Calgary and Alberta has experienced, the donation will be directed to the Canadian Red Cross to relieve those affected most by flood damages.

“Thousands of Albertans have been affected by the floods, we hope that this donation will support those that need it most in the areas most impacted,” said Calgary Flames President & CEO Ken King. “We are profoundly moved by the immense civic pride, and humanity displayed by first-responders and by compassionate and hard-working volunteers. And we are also heartened by the many flood relief donations – big or small – to help other Albertans.”

“The Canadian Red Cross is very appreciative of the generous support from the Flames Foundation for Life to help support those who were impacted by the devastating floods in Alberta,” says Sue Phillips, Director General of Western Canada for the Canadian Red Cross. “This generous donation will be instrumental in helping to meet the needs of Albertans and will assist in our commitment to stand by the affected communities down the long road to recovery.”

The charitable arm of the Calgary Flames, the Flames Foundation for Life supports education, health and wellness and grassroots and amateur sports to improve the lives of Southern Albertans through various initiatives.
