Hamilton’s Copps Coliseum renamed FirstOntario Centre

The home of the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs has been officially renamed FirstOntario Centre.

The City of Hamilton as well as Global Spectrum, which manages the arena, completed a 10-year, $3.5 million, naming rights agreement with FirstOntario Credit Union.  The rink inside the arena will be known as the Victor K. Copps Rink to remember the former mayor and namesake of the coliseum. The sign will also include the words “In honour of Victor K. Copps.”

Scott Thompson, in a recent article in theSpec.com, comments, “The decision is being met with mixed reviews but, like anything in life, money talks, and it was only a matter of time. I fully support the decision; it acknowledges the fiscal reality nowadays.”

The Bulldogs’ first game in the newly-renamed arena will be on Saturday, Feb., 15.
