The City of Ottawa announced another coup on their sponsorship program being delivered by Bernie Colterman and his team at Ottawa at the Centre of Excellence for Public Sector Marketing. The new recreation complex under construction in Barrhaven South in Ottawa is now officially named the Minto Recreation Complex – Barrhaven.
“Minto has a long and distinguished history in Ottawa through their development of neighbourhoods and their extensive community relations work” said Mayor Jim Watson. “Their sponsorship of this complex will enhance the lives of the many families living in and around the Barrhaven South area.”
This 15 year Community Champions sponsorship commitment has a value of $1.45-million. The funding will help with the installation of an outdoor artificial field with lighting at the 160,000-square-foot complex. The new facility also features a six-lane, 25-metre pool, two NHL-sized rinks, a gymnasium, fitness centre, and seven multi-purpose rooms.
“We feel a corporate responsibility to give back to the communities that have helped make us so successful,” said Roger Greenberg, CEO of the Minto Group. “This partnership with the City demonstrates our belief that sports and recreation programs are one of the mainstays of a healthy, active community and it shows Minto’s commitment to support a neighbourhood where so many of our customers and employees live, work and play.”
This is the third naming rights deal in less than a year that has been secured under the City of Ottawa’s branded sponsorship initiative, the Community Champions Program, bringing the total value of secured naming rights to $2.4 million. In addition over $1.2 million has also been secured in pouring rights agreements. Less than one year since the official launch of the program, City of Ottawa is well underway to reaching its target of generating $12.7 million over five years.
